I put a lot of effort into learning the 3 songs for the audition. I really had a “fuck it” attitude and just went in there and gave it my all. I figured that I would go for this audition and if I get it, it was meant to be. I was pretty much done and had everything on Craig’s List ready to sell it all. I was bartending in Vegas and making money and was thinking of other business ideas. There was a period of time about 3 or 4 weeks before the Death Punch audition where I was pretty much ready to focus on something else. Honestly, at that point there wasn’t a whole lot of pressure for me. When it came down to auditioning, was there a lot of pressure? I read that you actually got your audition through a friend (Jeremy’s drum tech) and by messaging the band through Facebook. Not at all but the stuff that I write tends to lean more towards a hardcore vibe but definitely Metal. So was the material you were writing and recording much different from what you’re doing with Five Finger Death Punch? I was also doing some recording of my own songs. I can’t say anything but positive things about those guys.

He just brings everybody in and it’s fun. With the Sinners I would just get up there and play a couple of songs like “Ace of Spades” or “You’ve Got Another Thing Comin’.” Brent Muscat is like the musical mayor of Las Vegas. I did used to sit in with a band in Vegas called the Sin City Sinners.īrent Muscat’s band! Nothing that ever got further than playing for some friends at the local bar. I do know that you were a bartender in Vegas but what were you doing music wise before the Five Finger Death Punch gig?īasically my music history is that I’ve done a lot of small projects here and there. I tried doing some research on you but didn’t find much. Ten years later here and I am and things turned out OK. I mean, I liked it but as far as trying to live there it just wasn’t for me so Vegas it was. I eventually made it out to LA but I didn’t get it. Gaudy, big lights and lots of action going on. As soon as I got to Vegas I just fell in love with it and knew that’s where I wanted to be. I moved to Vegas with the intent of eventually moving to Los Angeles. So how did a Kentucky boy end up in Las Vegas? I’m a Southern boy so I know what you mean. We were slopping it up but we put on a great performance. About three songs in my hands still weren’t warm. We did an outdoor show in Texas the other day and it had to be fucking 40 degrees outside. Settle in and enjoy this one.Ĭhris, welcome to Atlanta bro. Before their sold out show in Atlanta, I had the pleasure of meeting this mysterious guy where we talked about what he did before the 5FDP gig, his admiration for KISS and how much he loves reading hate comments on Blabbermouth.

In the blink of an eye he went from being a bartender in Las Vegas to being the bassist in Five Finger Death Punch and touring the country behind their latest album “American Capitalist.” Chris Kael has been winning over the diehard Knuckleheads and has solidified himself as a full on 5FDP member.
